Başak Özerkan was born in 1994 in Istanbul. She graduated from the Traditional Turkish Arts Department of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University. She received her çini (traditional Turkish tile art) training from Latife Aktan Özel and her miniature training from Taner Alakuş. Özerkan completed her master’s degree in Traditional Turkish Arts at Sakarya University. She has worked as a Visual Arts teacher at Aydın Doğan Fine Arts High School and Yunus Emre Middle School. Since 2020, she has been working in the project-based çini and ceramics atelier at the Istanbul Beylerbeyi Sabancı Olgunlaşma Institute. Actively involved in both the design and production processes, Özerkan also teaches çini.
