Eyüp Karanfil was born in 1971 in Bergama, İzmir. He worked actively in the field of letterpress printing for 45 years, during which he gained a deep understanding of the anatomy of letters. He studied in the Department of Traditional Handicrafts at Trakya University. In 2001, Karanfil turned his focus to the art of calligraphy. He enhanced his artistic education by studying with the calligraphy artists of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism — Zafer Akbayır, Osman Sandıkçı, Erhan Genç, Yıldırım Bayazıt Yaylak, and Serkan Albez. In 2025, he was officially recognized by the Ministry as an Intangible Cultural Heritage Bearer / Calligraphy Artist. Since 2010, Karanfil has been actively practicing calligraphy, producing bespoke designs in his studio in İzmir. He has participated in various national and international events and continues his artistic work at his studio located in the historic Kemeraltı Bazaar in Konak, İzmir. He shares his works on Instagram under the account @karanfilkaligrafi. He is married and a father of three children.
