Nursen Güven was born in 1954. She is one of the first graduates of Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, where she entered in 1972. Güven took classes from Süheyl Ünver in 1978, and did her graduate studies in classical bookbinding field in 1985. She received khatt, illumination, miniature, tile, classical bookbinding, carpet-rug and old cloth patterns training at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSFAU). She took khatt classes from Mahmut Öncü, Emin Barın, Hasan Çelebi and Ali Alparslan; illumination classes from Tahsin Aykutalp; miniature classes from Neşe Aydey; classical bookbinding classes from İslam Seçen; carpet-rug patterns classes from Yusuf Durul and Aydın Uğurlu. Güven took part in the restorations of Edirne Selimiye Mosque and Istanbul Sultan Ahmet (Blue) Mosque; she is the first illustrator who worked in mosques and restorations as an academician and a woman. She gave miniature and tile classes at MSFUA between 1990-2005. Her works, which have been topics of papers in various national and international symposiums, are in collections both in Turkey and abroad. She won first prize in the International Traditional Arts Competition organized in 2006 in Riyadh.
