Gülay Yakar was born in 1975. She graduated from the Tile Decoration Program at Dumlupınar University in 1999 and from the Architectural Restoration Program at Balıkesir University in 2024. She began working in the field of tile art during her education and studied with Mehmet Gürsoy, Mehmet Koçer, and İsmail Yiğit. She worked in Mehmet Gürsoy’s studio and received her ijazah from him. In addition, she received miniature painting training at the İzmir Painting and Sculpture Museum. Yakar has worked in various studios producing ceramics and tile art. She served at Çiğli Public Education Center and later worked for three years at the İzmir Maturation Institute. She participated in exhibitions hosted by Dokuz Eylül University Rectorate in İzmir and took part twice in workshops organized by the Yunus Emre Institute in Cyprus. She continues her artistic practice in her own studio in Ayvalık, focusing on tile art, ceramics, and pottery.
